Colway Gate

Sustainable drainage design, site-wide external levels design, bulk earthworks volumetric analysis
Lyme Regis

Colway Gate is a thoughtfully engineered residential development perched above Lyme Regis, transforming a steep and geologically complex coastal site into a sustainable, resilient, and high-quality living environment that responds sensitively to its dramatic landscape.

Through our thoughtful and collaborative engineering design, the following benefits were realised:

80% average removal of silt, heavy metals and hydrocarbons through nature-based drainage solutions
Improved biodiversity and air quality
92 lorry movement reduction in site cart-away.
Reduced extent of retaining walls.

Our team supported the successful delivery of Colway Gate, a new residential development set atop the dramatic, sloping cliffs overlooking Lyme Regis. The site’s steep topography and variable geology presented complex engineering challenges that required a thoughtful, site-specific approach.

EGY was appointed to deliver sustainable drainage design, site-wide external levels design, and bulk earthworks volumetric analysis. Careful coordination of external levels was essential to manage the steep gradients, ensuring safe, accessible movement across the development while minimising the visual and physical impact of necessary interventions.

Our sustainable drainage strategy responded to the site’s natural contours, integrating SuDS techniques to control surface water runoff and enhance resilience against the coastal environment’s unique pressures. Through detailed volumetric analysis, we optimised earthworks to reduce material import and export, supporting the project’s environmental and cost-efficiency goals.

The result is a thoughtfully engineered scheme that respects the dramatic landscape while delivering a high-quality living environment in one of the South West’s most picturesque coastal settings.
